Functional Family Therapist in Foster Care (FFT FC) Supervisor

Octavia Dawson, MS, serves as a Program Supervisor with NAFI Florida. She holds a Master of Science in Psychology and a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a concentration in Human Services, both from the University of Phoenix.

With more than 20 years of professional experience spanning criminal justice, child welfare, human services, education, and direct care, Octavia brings a diverse and comprehensive perspective to her work with children, families, and individuals. Prior to joining NAFI Florida, she served as a Child Welfare Case Manager, working collaboratively with children, biological parents, foster and adoptive families, and community partners to promote safety, permanency, and overall well-being.

Octavia also dedicated 17 years to the Florida Department of Corrections, including several years as a Senior Classification Officer. In this role, she managed complex caseloads, assessed individual risks and needs, developed reentry plans, coordinated mental health and community-based services, trained new staff, and supported individuals and their families in preparing for successful transitions back into the community.

Earlier in her career, Octavia worked with the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice as a direct care staff member serving male and female youthful offenders in a Level 4 and higher commitment facility. Her professional experience also includes providing direct care to geriatric clients in long-term residential care.

Octavia’s areas of professional strength include case management, crisis intervention, motivational interviewing, assessments, conflict resolution, and multidisciplinary collaboration. She also holds a certificate in Mental Health First Aid for adolescents and teens.

Throughout her career, Octavia has remained committed to serving others through compassionate leadership, evidence-informed practice, and a strengths-based approach. She is dedicated to empowering children, families, and individuals to overcome challenges, build on their strengths, and achieve meaningful, lasting positive change.
